Cary, NC - On Saturday, March 6, 2010, @ 9:00 a.m. the 17th annual WakeMed Cary Distance Festival will be held. This event includes two races, a 10K and a 5K. Both start in downtown Cary at the BB&T Building on East Chatham Street.
The entry fee is $15 if registration is received on or before February 28th. After February 28th and on race day the registration fee is $20. There is no fee for children under 8 accompanying a participating adult.
In 2008 Tim Miegs won the 10K race in 35:18. Darby Reed holds the course record of 31:08 set in 1998. Kelcey Carlson won the women’s competition in 41:45 Tara Wojciechowski holds the course mark for women of 35:34 set in 2002. The 5K winners included Benjamin Jones who won with a 16:44 effort and Heather Davis who won the women’s title in 19:33, Kristin Price holds the women’s course record of 17:43. The 5K course record for the men is held by Adam Eigenrauch (15:55).
The top three men and women in each race will be honored with awards from Inside Out Sports. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Cary Rotary Club.
